BENEFITS OF COLD THERAPY

Cold plunges, also known as cold water immersion, may have many benefits, including:
-
Mental health
Cold plunges may improve mood, reduce anxiety and depression, and boost dopamine and endorphins, which can create feelings of alertness and happiness. They may also help build mental resilience and discipline by teaching the mind to be comfortable in discomfort.
-
Physical health
Cold plunges may reduce inflammation and swelling, relieve muscle soreness, and speed up muscle recovery. They may also help with exercise recovery and boost immunity. Cold temperatures can constrict blood vessels, which can reduce blood flow to affected areas and help with healing.
-
Metabolism
Cold plunges can temporarily increase metabolism by activating brown fat cells, which burn calories to raise body temperature.
How does a Cold Plunge work?
When you take a plunge into cold water, the cold water immediately removes your body heat, drops your internal temperatures, and changes blood flow. This process has long been thought to treat primary and secondary tissue damage as well as inflammatory response. It's also why many athletes use ice baths and cold plunges to recover.
Who Should Not Use a Cold Plunge?
Some people should not cold plunge, including those with certain medical conditions, older adults, and people who take medications:
-
Heart conditions: Cold water immersion can put a strain on the cardiovascular system, which can be dangerous for people with heart disease, cardiovascular disease, or aneurysms.
-
Respiratory conditions: Cold water immersion can also be dangerous for people with breathing conditions like asthma.
-
Older adults: Older adults should use caution when cold plunging.
-
Medications: Some medications may make cold plunging dangerous.
-
Being sick: Cold water immersion can weaken the immune response of someone who is already fighting an infection.

How cold is it and how long do you stay in?
We keep our water temperature between 40-45 degrees. We give you 30 minutes in the room but most people are in the actual lunge for a couple minutes. (We recommend booking the Infrared Sauna after your cold plunge.)
